Why Meditate?
The benefits of meditation are endless!
Meditation has been around for thousands of years. There are hundreds of studies showing that its benefits range from lowering blood pressure to pain relief. It can reduce inflammation, which is the root cause of nearly all illnesses. It can lead to improvement in relationships and enhance performance at work, as well as improve mental health, depression, anxiety, and overall stress level.
The purpose of meditation is to slow down your brain waves so you can get beyond your conscious thinking. Meditation gives your brain a break from the constant replay, or the stories you play over and over in your mind. Breaking the replay clears the way for you to access new thoughts, which opens the door for solutions to problems you may be facing.
We tend to spend most of the day thinking, and therefore can become addicted to our thoughts. This thinking is not always useful. It can actually be very negative, which has a direct correlation to how we feel.
Meditation slows down the number of thoughts you are having as well as the speed at which thoughts enter your mind. When you think less you become more in control of your emotional reactions. You are, in effect, teaching your mind how to turn off your unwanted thoughts. So, the next time someone cuts you off while driving and you start thinking, “How rude!” you can turn the thought off and decide whether or not to get mad. And what is even cooler is that when you think less you start spending less time in your head and more time noticing things like the blue sky, trees, and birds. You become less involved with your thoughts and more involved in the present moment and the beauty of the real world.
Your mind is designed to notice what is in front of you and your soul is your GPS. When you meditate you can hear your soul and therefore follow it and live a life of fulfillment.
Meditation Sessions with Elizabeth Rieskamp RN, HTCP
Meditation Sessions are designed to educate you on the benefits of meditation, proper technique, and how to create a meditation practice tailored toward your goals, lifestyle and personality.
The education during your first session is designed to eliminate the stress of starting a new practice, while also helping you come up with a plan that leads to success as you begin your meditation journey. Follow-up sessions provide an opportunity for feedback and support with any challenges that may have arisen.
“You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.” -Dr. Sukhraj Dhillan
“True, it will help lower your blood pressure, but so much more: it can help your creativity, your intuition, your connection with your inner self.” - Burke Lennihan RN
