Hypnotherapy

When Jim was nearing the end of his acupuncture training, a school associate shared with him that he was taking hypnotherapy classes at a school in Portland Oregon called Apositiva.  Jim knew that adding the power of the mind would be an asset to his future practice in oriental medicine, so he enrolled in several classes. The training was excellent, and he learned a lot concerning the role of the subconscious mind in learning, balancing health, breaking old habits and addictive behaviors, and helping with dozens of health challenges.  It proved to be especially helpful in helping with anxiety, depression, weight loss and smoking cessation.

There are many misconceptions about hypnotherapy and a fear that the hypnotherapist can take control and even get you to do things against your will.  This is totally false.  In a hypnotherapy session, the goal is to establish a state of deep but conscious relaxation. During the induction phase, with the eyes closed, the process involves stepping down the level of relaxation to establish a state where the subconscious mind accepts, very literally, suggestions that can help reprogram, in a positive way, the mind body connection.  This state is referred to as the critical factor where the brain waves reach the Alpha state of relaxation of 7.5 hertz to 8 hertz.  This is a state of relaxation that is achieved just before falling asleep.

This Alpha state is important because suggestions are literally interpreted by the subconscious mind as truth.  Without stepping down to this deep state of relaxation, the conscious mind tends to challenge these suggestions in a negative way.  For example; “it will never work for me“ or “there is no way I can do that”.  The good news is, in this Alpha state, the brain can be rewired to give strength, focus, and make changes happen. Hypnotherapy can change the direction of your life by establishing constructive behaviors and eliminating destructive behaviors.

At Transformational Healing Center the hypnotherapy process is done in two phases.   Phase one is the first appointment, which involves sharing of health history and the purpose of the visit.  During this time, information is gathered to custom make a hypnotherapy recording.  Phase two involves receiving the recorded session on a flash drive which is taken home to be listened to repeatedly as needed.  Depending on circumstances, acupuncture, and or, cupping, may be part of the treatment plan.
